We advise parents to introduce their child to professional dental care from the age of three. This may include watching a parent have their teeth cleaned, or having their own baby teeth counted and polished with a soft brush. The experience is a positive one and is encouraged with each subsequent appointment. This process of familiarisation allows your child to grow with little or no anxiety towards the benefits of preventative dental care.
Having a bad experience at the dentist at a young age often results in a fear of dental care in later years.
Utilising the latest advances in dentistry, including laser, digital x-rays and ozone therapy, Dr Prasad will be delighted to cater for all your children’s dental needs and requirements.
If your child is already anxious, patience, time and the soft approach of our experienced team are the solution. We like to call this our ‘teddy bear therapy’. As part of the calming techniques we provide children with a cuddly toy and show them entertaining children’s movies to distract them. In certain instances we may recommend sedation or general anaesthetic for the management of special needs or a highly anxious child.
For children who are older or more mature, and a little more co-operative, treatment may be done under relative analgesia (also known as “happy gas”). Children are still aware of their surroundings but will feel more comfortable having treatment done in the chair. After a couple of breaths of “happy gas”, children will feel more relaxed and the gas may induce a certain “happy drunk” sensation.
